Fire Station Two

Black Forest Fire Station Two, on Hodgen Road near Black Forest Road, went into service during the first week of October 2009.

Black Forest Fire Station Two: 16465 Ridge Run Road at Hodgen Road

The station, at 16465 Ridge Run Road, houses one ambulance, one structure fire engine, one wildland fire engine, and one water tender (water hauling truck). The metal and brick building includes sleeping spaces for four members, plus a small kitchen space and office area.

Fire Station Two is staffed with one paid firefighter/EMT during daytime hours when most volunteer members are at their day jobs. On shifts when surplus volunteer staffing is available, larger crews are assigned to standby duty at Station Two. Any volunteer who lives closer to Station Two reports directly to that station when responding from home.

With the opening of Station Two, almost all homes in the District are now within five road miles of a fire station. Homes within the five-mile distance now qualify for the ISO 5 rating enjoyed by most other District homes.

The opening of Station Two fulfills a long-term promise to residents in the northern areas of the fire district. In 2001, the fire district board of directors determined that the best way to improve fire service to most district homes would be to replace the old, centrally-located fire station with two new stations.

In November 2001, Black Forest voters approved the plan. By a strong margin, they approved a bond issue to build Station One at the corner of Teachout and Burgess, and authorized the construction of Station Two somewhere on the north end of the district. Station One, which includes the district headquarters offices and training facilities, went into service in December 2003.
