The old fire station at the corner of Black Forest and Shoup Roads is no longer usable by the fire department, and because of zoning laws, cannot be sold to any other entity for a useful purpose. This has presented a dilemma for the fire department.
The building is so obsolete that it would be too expensive for a new owner to remodel or repurpose. But it continues to cost the District a significant amount of money, in monthly utility bills and maintenance expenses. Thus, to stop the costs involved with maintaining the building, it is slated for demolition.
A new committee has formed in Black Forest - the Black Forest Community Foundation - whose sole purpose is to use the land where the old station now stands to develop a new community park. Their vision is to tie together the Black Forest Log School, on one side, and the Black Forest Community Club building on the other side of the new park, to create a Black Forest heritage center.
A project such as this requires funding, and the Foundation has been actively soliciting donations and support within the community. The Black Forest Community Club Board of Directors has already pledged a $5,000 matching grant to provide the initial seed money and jump start the community fundraising effort.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to this worthwhile community project, support it with your time, or participate in the planning effort, please email the Foundation or send a letter to:
