There are a few things we can't do for you

Our members generally bend over backward to be helpful, but there are a few things that we cannot help you with:

Car towing: If we try to pull you out of a snowbank, it's more likely that we'll damage your car and hurt you or us. Instead, we'll offer you shelter at our station while you arrange for a tow truck.

"Rescuing" cats from trees: This is too risky, because our ladders are not designed for safe use in trees. Cats return to the ground when they are motivated (hungry) enough.

Pumping water out of basements: Even a small piece of floating trash can seriously damage a fire pump.

Community Assistance and Outreach

Since 1945, Black Forest Fire/Rescue has been a group of neighbors helping neighbors.

Public assistance

We often help our medically fragile residents who have mobility problems, or who need help with their oxygen supplies. During blizzards, we retrieve stranded motorists and bring them to shelter.

Community first aid training

We offer public classes in CPR and First Aid, plus the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course. We develop custom training to meet the special requirements of community groups, such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, or area schools. Volunteers also give presentations on heart attack and stroke symptoms.

Community fire safety education

We'll stop almost anything we're doing to give a station tour. We love to visit schools and preschools, and take advantage of “teachable moments” with children. We offer home safety assessments, and can evaluate your preparation for wildfire. In personal encounters, and in the local media, we continually promote fire prevention and home safety.

Support for community events

The entire department pitches in to present our annual free Easter Egg Hunt (often in the snow). At the Black Forest Community Club’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, we deliver Santa on the back of a fire engine. We participate in the Black Forest Festival Parade each summer, and spend the rest of Festival day doing public education and demonstrations. Our neighboring departments also invite us to their celebrations, such as the Palmer Lake Fourth of July Parade.

Support for charities

We support the Muscular Dystrophy Association with its annual “Fill the Boot” fundraising effort. We’ve entered teams to cook chili for charity, and we sometimes raise charitable funds with a dunk tank at the Black Forest Festival.
