Read about a
Wildfire Risk Assessment

This story explains exactly how the process works.

Learn how to make your home more defensible in a wildfire.

Our neighboring fire protection districts also offer wildfire risk assessments to their citizens. If you are served by the Tri-Lakes/Monument Fire Department, Wescott Fire Department, or Falcon Fire Department, contact them for more information.

Wildfire Risk Assessments

A Wildfire Risk Assessment evaluates how well your Black Forest home would manage in a wildfire, and whether firefighters would be able to defend it. This visit can take as little as 30 minutes, and is free to our residents.

There is no risk, no obligation, and no code enforcement. Our goal is simply to give you the information you need to make your home and land more defensible in a wildfire.

To request a free assessment, call Station One at (719) 495-4300, or send e-mail to firewise@bffire.org. A department member will contact you to schedule your assessment. (Our assessments are generally performed by volunteers, so we usually can't come out as soon as you call. But we'll schedule a visit as soon as possible.)

Using standardized tools, the evaluator will identify potential concerns, and suggest specific areas of improvement.

As we saw during the Pine Glen fire of 2002, wildfire is a very real threat to Black Forest. But you can help reduce the risk of wildfire by getting prepared.
