Media Area

Black Forest Fire/Rescue is committed to give the public accurate information about emergency incidents, within the constraints of safety, professional ethics, and the law.

Contacting a Public Information Officer

Like many members of our department, our PIOs are volunteers who do not keep regular hours at the station. To reach one of us quickly, call our pager to leave your phone number for a callback. Or call Fire Station One at (719) 495-4300 and ask someone to send a text message to our pagers.

Working with the media at an incident

Providing good, accurate public information is a high priority for Black Forest Fire/Rescue. However, our highest priority is to respond to emergencies.

Our Public Information Officers have primary duties as firefighters and emergency medical care providers. Thus, in the early stages of a response, we may not be able to spare someone to work with the media.

As soon as enough personnel are available to properly respond to the emergency, the Incident Commander will assign a Public Information Officer (PIO) for the incident. This PIO may be one of our two permanent PIOs (listed at right), another member of our department, or a member of one of our cooperating departments.

We look forward to helping you get your story, safely and accurately. Until then, please download our latest Press Kit for background information about our department.
