Contacting a Public Information Officer

Like many members of our department, our Public Information Officer (PIO) is a volunteer who does not keep regular hours at the station. To reach the PIO quickly, call the pager number at right to leave your phone number for a callback. Or call Station One at (719) 495-4300 and ask someone to send a text message to that pager.

Working with the media at an incident

Providing good, accurate public information is a high priority for Black Forest Fire/Rescue. However, our highest priority is to respond to emergencies.

Our PIO has primary duties as an emergency responder. Thus, in the early stages of a response, we may not be able to spare someone to work with the media.

As soon as enough personnel are available to properly respond to the emergency, the Incident Commander will assign a PIO for the incident. This may be our permanent PIO (listed at right), another member of our department, or a member of one of our cooperating departments.
